I was recently lucky enough to make another trip across the Atlantic, spending 10 days in England & northern France. I dedicated a lot of my time there to my passion for World War I history; visiting battlefields and memorials and also attending the Great War Group's inaugural conference. Before the trip, I knew I … Continue reading Minnesotans of Aisne-Marne

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman out there forging her own path.
More DC adventures: The National Portrait Gallery is free, open until 7pm and so worth it. On display there: “Grant and His Generals,” painted by Ole Peter Hansen Balling in 1865.
Before Pershing Park became the location for a #WWI memorial, the only memorial to the conflict in our nation’s capital was this one: the District of Columbia’s memorial to its fallen. It was erected in 1931, and by the early 2000s it had fallen into a shameful state of disrepair. Looking a bit better now.
From my visit to the @librarycongress today - a great photo of Pershing as a Lt. on horseback in New Mexico in 1886 (or 87).
When in DC… your visit is not complete without stopping by Pershing Park and the #WWI memorial in the nation’s capital, to be complete in 2024 with the installment of “The Weight of Sacrifice” sculpture. But for now I’m just here to see Black Jack.
Wounded Doughboys enjoying the company of their French visitors. Don’t miss the little stuffed teddy donning a Brodie helmet in front 😂
