I hope you all are keeping well out there in this mad, mad world. I have been suffering from the travel itch yet again, especially as I have come up on an anniversary of a fantastic trip to France I took in 2015. First World War memory is in places you might not always expect. This peak in Jasper National Park 🇨🇦 is named after British nurse Edith Cavell who worked in occupied Belgium in #WWI. She helped hundreds of allied soldiers escape from occupied territory and because of this she was arrested, tried and executed by the Germans on October 12, 1915.

Really great visit today to @themilitarymuseums in Calgary! This place is well worth the visit and is massive. It holds Alberta’s museums on the Army, Air Force and Navy along with galleries on specific regiments with ties to Alberta: Lords Strathcona’s Horse, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, King’s Own Calgary Regiment and the Calgary Highlanders.
Great to be north of the border again 🇨🇦. Went for a walk in Calgary this morning to Memorial Drive and Poppy Plaza - a modern memorial plaza overlooking the Bow River. #yyc #warmemorials #greatwar #wwi #fww
Most locals don’t realize it, but one of America’s largest #WWI memorials is in Minneapolis, MN. Victory Memorial Drive is lined with 568 Moline elm trees and memorial crosses for each Hennepin County resident that died in the war. This includes both men and women, and not just those that fought in the #AEF but also for our allies 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇨🇦.
Since it’s already April 25 down under, reflecting on the sacrifices of the Australians and New Zealanders on #ANZAC Day. They were a long, long way from home. 🇦🇺🇳🇿
